House of Culture
This nineteenth century house is located in what was the Camino de Jaén; one of the main gateways to the city, namely the general route Madrid-Cádiz, connecting to the old Castle of Bailen. Becoming part of what is tradition in the town, where the road is located the building changed its name several times, from Road to be designated Jaén Street, also being emphasized Street Plaza for the opening of the road when approaching Constitution Square (Plaza del Rey in the past), or finally get the name of Bailen Street Heroes today.
Surely we can take a trip back in time to find this place and imagine the movement of people and goods traveled this road, it would be so great to see how rampant the houses around this route, materializing many with the stones that provided the ancient walls of the city.
Between them, will highlight this building named since 1987 as House of Culture by Christopher Lopez Carvajal; Chairman of the council, along with various provincial and local authorities.
It was used as a family home from the first third of the twentieth century by its owner Don Juan Gracia Alonso, mayor of Bailen at the time, who in 1971 decided to retain in the inside of this house facade which was the Ducal Palace Ponce Leon, being dismantled stone by stone fortress until ITER was located on Calle de Nuestro Padre Jesus.
Finally in 1984, the City Council decided to purchase the property for its proximity to the town hall and the need for space to locate the Municipal Library and other municipal offices. The building was restored preserving its original structure we find the Library, the Exhibition Hall and Hall, while in connected and integrated into the building constructions the Municipal School of Music is located, the elemental Conservatory Reina Sofía, the Municipal Gimansio and the Association of Housewives of Bailen, thus leading to the Cultural Center of Bailen.
