The soldier Jos\u00e9 Francisco de San Mart\u00edn<\/b>, born in the Argentinian town of Yapey\u00fa<\/b> in 1778<\/b>, took an important part against the Napoleonic army due to his involvement in the Battle of Bail\u00e9n<\/b>.<\/p>

The \u201cFather of the Nation<\/b>\u201d as he will come to be known in Argentina, fought in the African crusade, in varied military actions in the south of Spain, in Gibraltar and in C\u00e1diz, until in 1808 he got promoted, becoming the Captain of the Borb\u00f3n regiment<\/b>. He would become Lieutenant Colonel<\/b> shortly after, due to his involvement in the Battle of Bail\u00e9n, in addition earning himself a decoration with the gold medal.<\/p>

In 1812<\/b>, San Mart\u00edn departed towards Buenos Aires<\/b>, where he was tasked with the creation of the Grenadier Cavalry Regiment<\/b>, which now carries his name. Later, he was entrusted with the leadership of the Northern Army<\/b>, where he concocted his plan for the South American emancipation.<\/p>

After being named Governor of Cuyo<\/b>, based in the city of Mendoza he put his plan into motion, declaring Per\u00fa\u2019s Independence in 1821<\/b>. Shortly after he would meet Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar in Guayaquil<\/b>, and after a brief interview San Mart\u00edn relinquished his army and the goal of finishing the liberation of Per\u00fa over to him. San Mart\u00edn departed back towards Europe, where he passed away the 17th of August of 1850.<\/b><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
