Promu <strong>Colonel, il obtient le commandement du R\u00e9giment d\u2019Afrique<\/strong>. Il serait gri\u00e8vement bless\u00e9 dans sa d\u00e9fense h\u00e9ro\u00efque du <strong>Mont San Marcial<\/strong>, dans un terrain difficile d\u2019acc\u00e8s, mais ses hommes, encourag\u00e9s par leur loyaut\u00e9 envers leur chef, d\u00e9cident de s\u2019allonger au sol sur les \u00e9paules les uns des autres et ainsi pouvoir atteindre la position du bless\u00e9 pour pouvoir l\u2019abaisser, le passant sur leur corps vers une zone plus facile d\u2019acc\u00e8s. <strong>En remerciement pour cette action, Casta\u00f1os a port\u00e9 pour le reste de ses jours l\u2019uniforme du R\u00e9giment d\u2019Afrique, comme le montre l\u2019image.<\/strong><\/p><p>En <strong>1808<\/strong>, la <strong>Junte de Sevilla<\/strong> le nomma <strong>G\u00e9n\u00e9ral en chef<\/strong> d\u2019une arm\u00e9e improvis\u00e9e form\u00e9e et entra\u00een\u00e9e en quelques semaines avec des<strong> troupes r\u00e9guli\u00e8res et volontaires<\/strong>. Avec son <strong>plan d\u2019op\u00e9rations<\/strong>, le g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Dupont fut vaincu lors de la <strong>Bataille de Bail\u00e9n le 19 juillet 1808<\/strong>. Gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 la grande victoire remport\u00e9e, Casta\u00f1os re\u00e7ut le poste de <strong>Capitaine G\u00e9n\u00e9ral. <\/strong><\/p><p>En <strong>juillet 1833, Ferdinand VII<\/strong> lui accorde le titre de <strong>Duc de Bail\u00e9n<\/strong>. Tandis qu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 92 ans, la reine <strong>Isabelle II<\/strong> lui conf\u00e8re le titre de <strong>Marquis de Portugalete en 1850, et il meurt \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 94 ans, le 29 septembre 1852. <\/strong><\/p><p>Il fut <strong>enterr\u00e9 au Panth\u00e9on des Hommes Illustres de Madrid jusqu\u2019en 1963<\/strong>, ann\u00e9e o\u00f9 sa <strong>d\u00e9pouille mortelle fut solennellement transf\u00e9r\u00e9e \u00e0 Bail\u00e9n et d\u00e9pos\u00e9e dans l\u2019\u00c9glise Paroissiale de l\u2019Incarnation avec son mausol\u00e9e d\u2019origine<\/strong>.
