Il deviendra <b>liutenant-colonel<\/b>, peu de temps apr\u00e8s, pour sa participation \u00e0 la Bataille de Bail\u00e9n, \u00e9galement d\u00e9cor\u00e9e de la m\u00e9daille d\u2019or.<\/p><p>En <b>1812<\/b>, San Mart\u00edn part pour <b>Buenos Aires<\/b>, o\u00f9 il se voit confier la cr\u00e9ation du <b>r\u00e9giment des grenadiers \u00e0 cheval<\/b>, qui porte aujourd\u2019hui son nom. Plus tard, on lui confia la <b>direction de l\u2019Arm\u00e9e du Nord<\/b>, o\u00f9 il con\u00e7ut son plan d\u2019\u00e9mancipation sud-am\u00e9ricaine.<\/p><p>Nomm\u00e9 <b>gouverneur de Cuyo<\/b>, avec son si\u00e8ge dans la Ville de Mendoza, il lan\u00e7a son projet en d\u00e9clarant <b>l\u2019ind\u00e9pendence du Per\u00fa en 1821<\/b>. Peu des temps apr\u00e8s, il rencontra <b>Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar \u00e0 Guayaquil<\/b> et, apr\u00e8s une br\u00e8ve entrevue, il lui confia son arm\u00e9e et l\u2019objectif d\u2019achever la lib\u00e9ration du Per\u00fa.
