Born in Bailén, Paquita was elected Miss Spain at the age of 18. The fifth of six siblings, she moved to Málaga to start working in the Parador del Golf. She had already been advised on various occasions previously to take part in a beauty contest, because her potential was clear to see.
She had never given much thought to the idea, until one day she decided to participate in a contest organised by the Diario de la Tarde newspaper of the Costa del Sol, where she would be chosen as Miss Malaga. Only two months later she was crowned Miss Andalusia and go on to represent the area at the Miss Spain ceremony.
That was just the beginning of what was to be a prosperous career, as she would later be named Miss Likeable World and Miss Europe, becoming a favourite model of Paco Rabanne and Pertegaz.
